Open Program Overview
Our Open Program is for curious learners who want to incorporate the values of dance training into their lives. The classes include a mix of ages and levels and this is built into the teaching approach, with some times where the students are separated by age or level to focus on different things, and other times where the students are together exploring the power of working across age and experience. Students in the Open Program receive high quality instruction in their chosen genre(s) and perform in the annual concert in June.
Open Program Classes
Classical ballet technique is taught with an anatomical focus that is geared towards understanding design, clarity, and lines of the body and space. This class is included in the Youth / Company Track.
Tap offers a way to explore the integral connections of rhythm and movement as students make music with their feet. In this class, students work on musicality, syncopation, and articulation of sounds and have the opportunity to learn terminology and movement patterns that are common in the tap genre.
Hip Hop is taught with a fast paced and energetic approach, incorporating street dance styles such as breaking, popping, locking, turfing, jerkin, krumping, and elements of freestyling. This class develops rhythm, coordination, strength, and individuality, while referencing Hip Hop history and its infusion in our culture.
Modern is taught in a progression that surveys American dance pioneers Horton, Graham, Limón, and others as applicable to the Fusionworks Youth Ensemble repertory. This class is included in the Youth / Company Track.
